We went to the Stone zoo last Friday. Lucien was entertained by the animals and my Dad and GG so, I could draw! The Gibbons were a huge hit to all. Sadly it started raining and I was wasn’t able to draw the Aye-Ayes or Snow Leopard. Next time!

This past weekend my Dad and Rebecca visited us. I wasn’t working on much since we were spending time together. Although, we did take a trip to the zoo and I sketched the animals because they watched Lucien, we watch General Hospital so I sketched during the show, and then they requested a painting.
So, this weeks Husbands Choice is Rebecca’s Choice. Their original request was a pelican, but then they kept calling it a penguin and at one point a moose.
Behold, the Moose-Penguin-Pelican!

This is a small canvas painted with acrylics. After years of mainly using colored pencils I have decided it is time to play with some other mediums. I really enjoined the acrylics. I liked being able to go back and forth dark to light and light to dark. My plan is to make one piece a week that is trying out different techniques just for practice.

One more round of my Ripples is coming to Ripple.
Here are my sketches that led up to the finals.

Speaking of fish with personality, I showed Lucien Finding Nemo yesterday. He was upset about numerous scenes, when Nemo is taken, when the sharks try to eat Marlin and Dory, and when Marla tries to “wake up” Nemo. With each scene he jumped in my lap.
I remember wondering when I first watched this movie, if the shark scene would scare kids, because it scared me. I long ago realized that most kids would not be bothered, but yesterday I couldn’t believe my kid got the ibby gibbies.

I just finished listening to InkHeart by Cornelia Funke. It was an epic story with a great love of books.
Faeries are described including Tinkerbell, who is very different from the blue dirt loving faeries of the Inkheart world. Tink stands and gawks at her reflection whenever she can.

I love the classic comedies from the 80′s. Comment if you know what movie this line is from. It is almost the first thing said.
Animal Wednesday is a bunch of horses! Getting back to my roots, my childhood roots. For my first 8 years I grew up in KY, so, like a proper young girl I was infatuated with horses. I drew them and rode them every chance I got.
The first horse’s face is a little scary. . . but I am happy with how the body came out. Again practicing with the sharpie.

I was going to write the breed of each horse to practice my hand lettering. It didn’t come out great so I left it off everywhere but here. It wasn’t crop-out-able.

Maybe some things in the sketchbook aren’t meant to be seen by anyone but the artist. They are practice. A moment of learning rather than a great piece of art or something that anyone wants to look at. But, I made a deal with myself that I would post two times a week covering my two themes. Husband’s choice was skipped last week for world cup, but I couldn’t let it go again.
This went from giants walking through cubicles, to the original Greek Titans sitting at a meeting table, to them huddling around the cubicle, to this.

Dwight pining to be part of the office gossip around the water cooler. I remember this episode where he felt that people around the water cooler held more power and the idea seemed to fit. It also required much less research on my part, to look up this photo and just draw it. Then getting to practice with markers to push line and shadow. I was having trouble since I first drew with a blue prismacolor, the thin point sharpie kept getting gunked up with wax-Jim ended up with a mustache! I had to use the thick sharpie for more than I wanted. I like the exercise of working outside my comfort zone though. Thank you for the suggestion.

I had such a good time with the world cup give away I am going to make some more! 4 more, one of a player from each team again.
To win comment on this post by 3pm tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, and I will do a drawing. The top four names will get one.
I am curious to see who you think will win each game, so give your line up in your comment too!
My guess is:
1st-Spain
2nd-Netherlands
3rd-Uruguay (mainly because they are my favs!)
4th-Germany
This is how the cards will look. Although, I have made my choices as to who I am drawing next. If anyone would like a specific player, please shoot me an email, I am willing to take commissions.

I think again, if you have already won a card you aren’t eligible to win for this round. Although, once I do a new give away all bets are off and everyone is in.
Thanks for participating
UPDATE: The Cards being given away this round. (we had babysitters today)

At the beginning of the year a friend of mine, Miguel A. Cardona Jr. posted some characterized profile pictures on facebook. They turned out to be a project of his, check them out. He has a tutorial on the process, too.
Anyway, I loved them! So, we set up a trade, I would draw something for him if he would make one of these pictures of me. This is what he gave me.

So, it is my turn to finish up my drawing of him! Here they are:

a Brief Caricature History on me: In a past life (college) I would draw caricatures at campus events. I really loved doing it, capturing a likeness is a joy. To keep them speedy 10-15 min. I used sharpies and crayons. After a night of breathing in the sharpie scent and laughing with people I would usually end up hoarse, but with a smile. This was so much a part of school life I made one for each person in CSH (Computer Science House-a group I was in during college), which were used for their yearbook. It was great to go back and make another one tonight.
I am always up for a trade.
