Animal Wednesdays

Trying to keep myself posting on a regular basis I am beginning another weekly post. Animal Wednesdays. The animals will either be made up, mixed with animals they don’t usually hang with, or just an animal doing what it does.

WildAnimal-1

This is a guy I started last week while Matt and I were out. Last night while we were reading Peak by Roland Smith, I finished it. I think he is very inspired by my friend eHawk

PuffinandFrog

I felt this piece was very appropriate for our Maine trip. I kind of saw puffins yesterday on our Whale Watching trip, but my head was mainly attached to a plastic bag. I went to draw him standing on a rock, but the frog showed up.

Sunshine at Midnight

This is a pretty rough sketch, but the concept is there. Had fun with this. Spent some time thinking of numerous ways there could be sunshine at midnight.

Given that it got my creative juices going, I have been warned this challenge will get mixed in another time.I also may take the sketch to a more final stage too.

A Slug King’s Castle

Here is last weeks choice that came in at the last minute. Husbandschoice002

I have always adored creepy houses. Not fairy tale houses with frilly pinks and shiny windows. The dark, tall, daunting kingdoms of doom where the bad guys live. I realize that no matter how much I like that, when I draw them, it is still with a smile. It isn’t really creepy. But, I had a lot of fun making this piece. I guess my bad guys will always be like Duke Igthorn.

Husband’s Choice

Summer has begun! Last night was the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance, the show that my husband and I actually take time out for to watch together every summer.

I intend to take advantage of this time together and start a new piece a week called Husband’s Choice. As per the title, he will pick what I draw.

I sprung this on him last night, so, he didn’t come up with something until the show was over. Which means the drawing hours had passed. However, to kick off the series, of pieces and the show, I came up with this.

Next week, will definitely be a piece of his choice. There should be two, one from his late idea this week and one for his idea for next week.

A Month in Rough Sketches

Dr. Sketchy’s

Yesterday’s Dr. Sketchy’s was a great figure drawing session, I definitely hope to go every month. I enjoyed using paint to sketch the figure, it was very interesting how it affected my pencil sketching. These images are in the progression of how I started to my last sketch. I played with proportions some.

A night in the radio studio

Sketchpage001

Last night the family went to Sean Graham’s to watch his Monday night radio show. Joining him were Professor Fletcher and 20 Grams. The music was rocking and there were many tributes to the man of the day Martin Luther King Jr.

These are the sketches of the night, Matt Girard, Sean Graham, and Jessica McKellar.

Loose Sketching

I love people that can draw with sketchy lines. Quentin Blake comes to mind. He is my hero. His illustrations breath.

My work doesn’t even come close to this! However, I had some fun tonight letting go a little. After looking back through Blake’s work, I can see how much further I should push.

Here is a sketch of this photo. What a great catch by the photographer, Ron Niebrugge!

Glorious Prominent Noses

I have always been a fan of noses. They are my favorite facial feature and my favorite feature to exaggerate. Now, when I caricature I tend to make an exaggerated portrait more than a full caricature, which is how I draw and I am happy with that. However, on some of these I am not sure I pushed the noses to full extent they could or should go.

I left off the names of these files, they are actors feel free to guess who they are.

Fall Sketch Painting

At the Halloween Party this weekend in Dryden NY I was able to do a couple of sketches with paints. Here are my two favorites.
